CHIPEZEZE NAMED IN ZIMBABWE SQUAD

For the first time in five years, Magesi FC goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze has been drafted into Zimbabwe’s senior national team squad.

The Warriors will play friendly matches against Burkina Faso on 6 June and Niger on 10 June, with both matches in Morocco.

The 35-year-old Magesi FC captain has been in great form this season, guiding Dikwena Tša Meetse to the Carling Knockout title, and in the league, he’s kept 10 clean sheets in 27 matches.

“Elvis had a successful season, and we also have to consider him,” commented Zimbabwe coach, Michael Nees. “We will see how it works. I also have to give him a chance.”

Chipezeze, who’s been capped nine times by Zimbabwe, is in the conversation for the Betway Premiership 2024/25 Goalkeeper of the Season award, as well as the Carling Knockout Player of the Tournament.

Speaking to www.magesi.co.za, Chipezeze expressed his delight at being recognized for national team duty.

“I’m just excited to be a part and parcel of the squad after a long time, through hard work and being patient, and also with the help of my teammates at the football club—everyone at Magesi Football Club made this happen. I’m just grateful for the opportunity,” commented Chipezeze, who confirmed that the last time he was with the Warriors was in Algeria back in 2020 when the North Africans played host in an Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier.

“Like I said earlier, it’s always good to represent your country, and I’m just grateful and honoured to be a part and parcel of the group. We just have to make sure we go out and work very hard and make the nation proud. It’s exciting times.”
