Coach Larsen sings Sekgota’s praises

One of Magesi FC’s new signings, Kgaogelo Sekgota, has been tipped to hit the ground running, with the Betway Premiership edging closer to kickoff.

Behind the scenes, Dikwena Tša Meetse have been hard at work under the astute mentor, Clinton Larsen.

Coach Larsen has expressed confidence in his team to punch above its weight in their maiden top-flight campaign, and Larsen is all smiles in terms of his team.

One of the reasons Larsen is beaming has to do with forward Sekgota, who has put in the hard work to ensure he’s a hit in the new season rather than a miss.

The 27-year-old is, in fact, a familiar name in the Premier Soccer League (PSL), having turned out for the now-defunct Bidvest Wits, Kaizer Chiefs, and Stellenbosch FC.

Larsen, in his assessment, believes Sekgota is set for a great start.

“I have watched KG at three previous teams: Wits, Kaizer Chiefs, as well as Stellenbosch, and one thing that was consistent was that he played on the left-hand side,” noted Larsen.

“What did he do? He beat his man and crossed the ball. I’ve put him in a different position this season because I feel his skill set will allow more than just crossing the ball,” he said.

“So, I believe he’s going to set the League alight. I honestly do, based on what I have seen and just the adjustments we have made in terms of the position he is going to play this season; he will not be playing as a left winger.

“I believe his skill set is stiffled to a certain extent; he doesn’t have a right foot, so cutting inside doesn’t really help him. So, I’m really looking forward to what he delivers, and I won’t be surprised if he’s one of the players who will be in high demand at the end of the current season,” Larsen concluded.

Magesi FC’s first outing in the Betway Premiership will be an away clash to Sekhukhune United, scheduled for the familiar ground of the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday, 18 September 2024.

Kick off has been set forn19H30.
