Dikwena up and running

Magesi FC has beaten Golden Arrows 1-0 to register its first ever win in the Betway Premiership at Mpumalanga Stadium in Hammarsdale, KwaZulu-Natal.

Wonderboy Makhubu will go down as Magesi FC’s first ever scorer in the top-flight, netting in the 80th minute to claim all three points on the road.

The match had tongues wagging, having kicked off on Wednesday night, 25 September and only finished on Thursday noon, 26 September.

On Wednesday, the match was abandoned in the 86th minute due to a “lack of power at Mpumalanga Stadium”, as alluded to by the hosts, Golden Arrows.

Despite the setback, Magesi FC returned to the venue and finished the job to claim the win.

For the uninitiated, rule 14.16 of the NSL Handbook states: “Should a match be abandoned by the referee due to insufficient illumination from the floodlights, then the remaining minutes of the match will be resumed on a date and at a time and venue agreed upon between the participating Member Clubs immediately upon the abandonment of the match.”

This is why only the remaining four minutes and injury time were played on Thursday to conclude the match.

The win moves Magesi FC to 12th on the log with three points from the same number of matches, ahead of Saturday’s home clash against another KZN side Royal AM at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The match against ‘Thwihli Thwahla’ will kick off at 17H30.
