In a very short space of time, Magesi FC Chairman, Mr. Solly Makhubela, has seen the club reach dizzy heights.
From the good, sometimes the bad, Magesi FC has evolved over the years.
The Chairman has seen the team emerge from the amateur ranks to professional football and this week, he’s probably pondering what’s next for Dikwena Tša Meetse, who are in the Carling Knockout Final.
The initial idea was to help out the boys in Moletjie, Limpopo, who came knocking on his door years ago when few could lend a helping hand as they harbored thoughts of making it to professional football. Being one who’s open-minded, Mr. Makhubela accepted the challenge and the rest is history.
Formed just 13 years ago, Magesi FC has come full circle, winning promotion to the topflight and now on the brink of more success.
Magesi FC will contest the Carling Knockout Final against Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday, 23 November 2024, at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein, Free State.
While some would be quick to install Mamelodi Sundowns as favourites, Mr. Makhubela and everyone in the Magesi FC corner, are well aware anything is possible in football.
When Magesi FC kicked off the Carling Knockout campaign, the team was pitted against Orlando Pirates in the Last 16, in a clash away and stood no chance, as per the predictions. Pirates were heavy favourites at Orlando Stadium, but the result proved different, with Dikwena Tša Meetse going through to the Quarter-finals after a 3-2 win.
The Quarter-finals were no different, with Magesi FC having to contend with another away clash, this time in Mpumalanga where we faced TS Galaxy. Magesi FC emerged 1-0 winners, to book a space in the semi-finals.
Next was Richards Bay and for the umpteenth time, away, in KwaZulu Natal. That didn’t deter Magesi FC, as we won 1-0 to reach the decider.
The final is certainly a defining moment for the club and Mr. Makhubela, just like many associated with the club, would be keen to see what’s next for the Blue Nation’s favourite players.
If history is anything to go by, Magesi FC is destined for greatness.
