Larsen unfazed by defeat

Magesi Football Club coach Clinton Larsen was gracious in defeat against Sekhukhune United on Wednesday.

Dikwena went down 1-0 in the Limpopo Derby played at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium and in his assessment, Larsen pointed out a few factors that played a role in the team not achieving its objective for the first match, which was to collect maximum points.

“I thought we started the game pretty well. I thought the first 20 minutes, we dominated possession, but the entire first half, we never really got near their goalkeeper,” Larsen admitted.

“So, that was the disappointing part of the first half. We didn’t execute our game plan at all in the first 45; we had no run-ins behind their defence, most of the passes were negative passes played sideways and back. It’s not the way we (usually) play,” he said.

Larsen continued: “I think we had six debutants out there and it was their first game in the PSL, so I understand the nervousness. I understand the stage (fright) and I think once the butterflies are out of their system, we will play better. I think you saw in the second half that they were a lot stronger; we were in their half, more than they (Sekhukhune) were in our half. Yes, we were a goal behind, but that’s the attacking intent we want to show all the time.”

Having said that, Larsen is looking forward to the next clash, which is another Limpopo Derby, this time against Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, 21 September, with kick off set off for 15H00.

Tickets are available at Computicket for only R40.

“Based on our performance in the second half (against Sekhukhune), I think we will see an improved one in the next game,” he added.
