Magesi FC deserves credit, says Larsen

Over the past eleven days, Magesi FC has made the football world sit up and take notice.

From beating Orlando Pirates 3-2 away in the Carling Knockout Last 16, to shifting focus to the Betway Premiership and getting a point against Cape Town City in the Western Cape, and rounding it up by playing to a 2-2 draw with Kaizer Chiefs, Dikwena Tša Meetse have shown why they are in the top-flight.

In his assessment, Magesi FC head coach, Clinton Larsen, said the boys and, by extension, the club, deserve a pat on the back after the draw against Chiefs at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday evening, 30 October 2024.

“If you know what we’ve been through over the past week: to play Orlando Pirates, go on to play Cape Town City, and come back on Monday and then play Chiefs, I can’t be disappointed with the result against Chiefs, you know,” stated Larsen, whose side was leading 2-0 with 18 minutes left on the clock, before playing out a stalemate.

“We are arguably the fittest team in the league. The way our boys fight and the way they run are second to none,” he continued, heaping praise on our physical trainer, Pedro Picarro.

“I’m proud of the team that we played Pirates and Chiefs in a space of 10 days and lost to neither. I think we must get credit for that; so happy for the club, the supporters, and most importantly, my players for leaving it all out on the pitch against Chiefs.

“They were just magnificent. I thought (Tshepo) Kakora, (Tshepo) Mashigo, Wonderboy (Makhubu), Deolin Mekoa—what a game Deolin had. I could go right through the team, and it took an individual mistake for their second goal that cost us two points.

“Going forward, no matter who we play, we will always be a threat,” Larsen added.

Magesi FC will play TS Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday, 3 November 2024, in the quarterfinals of the Carling Knockout.
