With all of South Africa watching, Magesi Football Club produced arguably its biggest win in history against Orlando Pirates to progress to the quarterfinals of the Carling Knockout 2024.
Dikwena Tša Meetse went to Orlando Stadium in Soweto as the underdog, but that counted for little as Pirates got a 3-0 drubbing on their own turf.
Delano Abrahams and Edmore Chirambadare were on the scoresheet, to go with Thabiso Sesane’s own goal, as Magesi FC surprised all and sundry.

Magesi FC will go into the hat for the draw on Sunday, 20 October 2024, live on SABC 1 and SuperSport TV.
The win in Orlando will be remembered for years to come, after some fine displays from Magesi FC.
From the onset, Magesi FC made its intentions clear, and just after the half-hour mark, Abrahams drew first blood, scoring with a header from a great cross from Tshepo Mashigo to put us 1-0 in the lead.
As if that wasn’t enough, Magesi FC continued to search for more, and with Pirates under pressure, Sesane was forced into an error and scored in his own net to give Magesi FC a 2-0 lead in the 39th minute.
To rub salt into the wound of the Pirates faithful, Magesi FC was awarded a penalty on the stroke of halftime.

Chirambadare stepped up, and his initial attempt was saved by Bucs goalkeeper Sipho Chaine, but the ball came back on Chirambadare’s path, who needed no second invitations, as he headed the ball into the net to make it 3-0.
As expected, Pirates came back firing from all cylinders in the second half, and a disciplined display saw Magesi FC hold on until towards the end, when Pirates scored two quick goals through Kabelo Dlamini and Evidence Makgopa.
However, Man of the Match, Elvis Chipezeze, re-organised his defence, and Magesi FC held on to win the thriller in Orlando.
This match will certainly live long in the memory.
For one, it was a thrilling encounter, and most importantly, it’s a historic win for Magesi FC.
Halala Dikwena Tša Meetse!!!
