Local football data-driven storyteller, Opta Jabu, has confirmed a significant change in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).
“Magesi FC are the first newly promoted side to reach the semi-finals of this competition since Free State Stars in 2007.”
Since the start of the PSL in 1996, the League Cup has been sponsored by different companies: Coca-Cola, Rothmans, Telkom, and today under Carling Black Label.
In 2007, Free State Stars went on to lose 2-1 to Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-finals. The eventual winners that year were Kaizer Chiefs, who beat Sundowns on penalties in the final to claim the trophy.
In 2024, Magesi FC will play Richards Bay in the semi-finals and for Dikwena Tša Meetse, it’s an opportunity to create more history.
