MAGESI FC MAKE HISTORY

Magesi Football Club has beaten Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 to win the Carling Knockout at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein, Free State, on Saturday, 23 November 2024.

Dikwena Tša Meetse came from a goal down to win the cup, R6.85-million cheque including a participation fee and made history in the process.

Magesi FC came into this clash as the underdogs and Sundowns were on the offensive from the onset, creating a lot of chances, but Magesi FC skipper Elvis Chipezeze was leading by example, making some great saves.

Sundowns drew first blood in the 36th minute through Iqraam Rayners, who finally got the better of Chipezeze. Heads dropped momentarily on Magesi FC’s side and by halftime, Sundowns were 1-0 to the good.

In this tournament, specifically, Magesi FC has proved its mettle.

Three minutes after the interval, Clinton Larsen’s charges were back on level terms, with Tshepo Kakora on the end of a cross by Edmore Chirambadare.

From this point, it was anybody’s game, with both teams going all out for a win.

With just three minutes of regulation time remaining, the big moment came for Magesi FC, as Abrahams fired home from a corner by Chirambadare to seal the win.

Ladies and gentlemen, Magesi FC are the Carling Knockout champions.
