Magesi Football Club President Dr Solly Makhubela has backed the club to raise the bar in the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season.
The team has been hard at work for the past couple of weeks in preparation for the upcoming season.
This comes on the back of our first season in the top flight last term (2024/25 season).
Magesi FC wrote itself into the history books by becoming the first newly promoted team to win the League Cup (Carling Knockout) in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) era when we beat Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 in Bloemfontein back in November 2024.
Dikwena Tša Meetse then ended the season in 13th spot in the Betway Premiership, and the President has reason to believe the team can improve the position.
“I think we are planning to be in the top eight… we are planning that,” said Dr Makhubela during his interview on Metro FM’s Sports Night Amplified with Andile Ncube on Tuesday, 1 July 2025.
“If you look at it, we just missed the top eight by three points.”
Dr Makhubela added that the ball is in the management’s court to ensure a better finish in the coming season.
“You know, I’m a person that likes to grow people, to develop people; even in my industry, I like that. I like to give people a chance to learn, and I’m someone who says, if I’m not there tomorrow, people must be able to run the club.”
