Magesi FC head coach Clinton Larsen is not fazed by the underdog tag.
Larsen was speaking ahead of Saturday’s Carling Knockout semi-finals clash against Richards Bay at King Zwelithini Stadium in KwaZulu Natal, with kick off at 15H00.
Ironically, Larsen hails from the KZN province, as he was born in Durban.
The spotlight is on Magesi FC, after a fine run in the cup competition.
While the expectations are higher after Magesi FC’s heroics in the 3-2 win over Orlando Pirates in the Last 16 and followed up by a 1-0 success against TS Galaxy in the quarter-finals, Larsen has insisted that the underdog tag resonates well with Dikwena Tša Meetse, taking a humble approach into the clash against the hosts, the Natal Rich Boyz.
“It’s a big occasion for the players to be in… 95% of them are in their first semifinal. We have played very difficult games starting with Orlando Pirates where nobody gave us a chance. Everybody this season, whether it’s in this cup or next, whether it is in the League, Magesi FC will be underdogs against any opposition,” said Larsen.
“Nobody respects us because we are still slowly growing our brand, but surely people will start realising that we are a team that can compete,” added Larsen.
