All eyes will be on Magesi FC when the Betway Premiership kicks off on 18 September 2024.
The Limpopo outfit caught the eye of Premiership enthusiasts last season, after winning automatic promotion from the Motsepe Foundation Championship to top division football.
Dikwena’s vast support base will be hoping for more of the same. It’s no different for head coach, Clinton Larsen, who has implored his squad to live up to the club’s nickname and fight, gallantly, for the badge.
“I am not here to talk about anything else because I understand how tough it is to be in this division, so for me, I want a team that’s going to go there and represent the club and fight. If it’s the top eight that we achieve, so be it and if it’s not, we need to go out and work harder,” said Larsen.
He added: “I want us to be a team that plays on the front foot like we were [doing] last season, a team that plays to score. I believe that we’ve brought in players who’ll allow us to play a brand of football that we can be proud of and the South African public can also be proud of.”
Magesi FC’s media team takes a closer look at our first five league matches, after the Premier Soccer League officially released the fixtures on 15 August 2024.
Sekhukhune v Magesi
We will be away in our first meeting on Saturday, 18 September, in what will be a much-anticipated Limpopo Derby. Sekhukhune have proven to be no pushover, finishing fourth in the past campaign. ‘Babina Noko’ will meet us at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium (19H30).
Magesi vs Polokwane City
As fate would have it, our first home game of the season will also be a Limpopo Derby, against, Polokwane City, on Saturday, 21 September. ‘Rise and Shine’ finished the 2023/24 season in eighth place. For this clash, we will host our neighbours at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium (15H00).
Arrows v Magesi
On Wednesday, 25 September, we will be on the road to KwaZulu Natal, where we face Golden Arrows at Hammarsdale Stadium. Kick off has been set for 19H30. This encounter is in the backyard of our head coach, Mr. Larsen and against his former team.
Magesi v Royal AM
We will then return home to entertain another KwaZulu Natal side, Royal AM, on Saturday, 28 September, at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium at 17H30.
Cape Town City v Magesi
To complete our first five outings, we will travel to Cape Town for a clash with the Citizens, which has been scheduled for 27 October at Athlone Stadium (15H00). Eric Tinkler’s men are more often than not a hard nut to crack, but a task we sure are ready for.
